Principal’s Message

Dear JYE Families,
What a great school year we have shared! As we wrap up the 2025–2026 academic year, my heart is filled with immense pride reflecting on the incredible accomplishments, academic breakthroughs, and joy our students brought to our school every single day.
While our classrooms are quiet for the summer, our school is full of activity. Our administrative team is already intentionally ramping up operations, refining our instructional designs, and preparing our campus to welcome your children back for the 2026–2027 school year on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.
Our core institutional focus is student-centered and driven by continuous improvement. We are constantly elevating our practices to ensure our students receive a world-class education. This upcoming school year, we are placing an intentional focus on bringing hands-on, experiential STEM concepts to life.
We are thrilled to be working on two major school practice updates. The JYE Living Science Garden: We are incorporating our school garden directly into our primary Science curriculum. Students will step out of the traditional classroom to plant, observe, and study ecosystems in a living lab. We are creating dedicated Science Labs specifically for our 3rd, 4th, and 5th-grade classrooms. These labs will allow our upper-grade students to engage in rigorous, inquiry-based experiments that build critical thinking and ignite a lifelong passion for discovery.
We know that true educational excellence is built on a foundation of deep relational trust. With the support of our families and community partners, I am entirely confident that we will continue to enrich the rich traditions and beloved learning activities that make JYE a great place to learn.
We are fortunate to have an exceptional, highly skilled staff of educators who possess a deep passion for teaching, a commitment to data-informed instruction, and a mindset as lifelong learners dedicated to supporting the whole child.
At John Young Elementary, our ultimate promise remains unchanged: to ensure that every single child who walks through our doors enters an engaging learning environment where they feel safe, welcomed, deeply loved, and genuinely excited to learn.
Thank you for your continued partnership, your trust, and your shared dedication to our children. Please enjoy a safe, happy, and deeply restorative summer with your families!
In Partnership,
Dr. Betsy Santana
